Maria Martins Costa nasceu a 27 de janeiro de 1999, em Lisboa. Atualmente, estuda Pintura na Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa. Entre as telas e as tintas sempre houve espaço para esta paixão e forma de expressão: a fotografia.
Sempre se interessou por fotografar pessoas, mãos e estranhezas do corpo humano.
Nesta série, a mão humana é representada por um frio molde de silicone, lembrando, de certa forma, outras partes do nosso corpo.
“Ruínas”, tal como o nome indica, remete-nos para o que nos é mais estranho: os restos e as partes abandonadas; algo que ruiu, caiu. De entre os trabalhos expostos, surgem fotografias do interior do molde. Interior este que nos pertence: um braço, uma perna, uma cara até. Olhar para dentro. Introspeção. É este o ponto chave do trabalho da Maria. Não é fácil deixar. Não é fácil mudar. Não é fácil evoluir. Queremos apagar
memórias, corrigir erros e vivências. Queremos abandonar passados – queremos uma nova “pele”.

Maria Martins Costa was born on January 27th, 1999 in Lisbon. Currently, she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Painting at the Fine-Arts University of Lisbon. Between the canvases and the paintings, there was always room for another passion and way of expressing her art: photography. Photographing poeple, hands and the strangeness of the human body has aways been an interest. The sequence depicts the human hand
as a ruthless piece of silicone, somehow recalling other parts of the human body.
“Ruínas”, as the name implies, takes us to what we find most weird: the remains and abandoned parts; something that collapsed and fell. Among the exhibition, one can identify the inside of this human “body”. The inside belongs to us: an arm, a leg, our face. We should look inside. Introspection. This is the key point of Maria's work.
Leaving is not an easy step. Neither is change. Evolution is tough. We aim to erase memories, correct mistakes and relive experiences. We want to let go of our past - we want a new "skin".
